tarrant rawston manor farm
tarrant rawston manor farm – a collaborative project between artist & farmer drawing on connections between food & art.
Manor Farm is a mixed arable 500 acre holding at the centre point of the village of Tarrant Rawston in South Dorset, England. Over the course of one month I nurtured relationships between people, product and land. My final installation focused on the relationships that manage the sustainability of food with place: a land that has cradled this responsibility since the neolithic period as is evidenced by the long barrow burial mound located at the beginning of the installation.
The outcome of an interactive installation invited the public, mostly locals, to walk (ramble) across the land but this time through the lens of an artist. The ramble began at the long barrow that was ‘wrapped’ in red fabric as a focal point as the viewers crossed the land. Throughout the walk there were museum type markers asking the viewer to consider food sustainability, science and their relationship with place. The ramble ended at Manor Farm’s 14th century chapel St. Marys where one ton of harvested barley rests at the alter.
