artist in residence
2023 North Pacific Cannery Museum in Port Edward adding another element of rust (history) to the eco printing process – at the museum I had access to historic artifacts as I did in a subsequent AiR in Wells prior to the installation in that gallery.
2023 Forest Echoes Cabins Residency with the Choreography of Trust Drawing Group where artists came from England and Germany to experience our west coast in artmaking to create a ‘sense of place’ installation in the Chilliwack Cultural Centre.
2022 Wood Buffalo Arts Council in Fort McMurray, AB. Eco printing with noxious weeds gathered from the riverbank. This residency was a gift that gave me the time to concentrate on this ‘new to me’ natural printmaking process on to textiles. The process was the beginning of a new direction where I found myself connecting with nature – in nature through the engaging in the alchemic curiosity of materials.
2020 Omineca Arts Centre in Prince George, BC. A Choreography of Trust artist collaboration with Sarah Grace Dye. A project that began as an exchange of post-artcards in Jan 2020 and culiminated in July 2020 (during Covid). The in person residency pivoted (as we all did) into a virtual residency with me on site at Omineca and Sarah via Zoom in Reykajik, Iceland. We zoomed daily with active drawing, delivering a collaborative artists talk as well as an artists-bookmaking workshop. This was the beginning in a shift of thinking how the arts can occur in ‘realtime’ around the world. The Choreography of Trust project became a group as zoom drawing sessions with 8 artist participants in Canada, England, France and Germany. 2019Two Rivers Gallery Artist in Residence during KidzArt Days in Prince George, BC with an interactive community project about wildfire called Playing with Fire. This co-creation element with the general public (children) looked at wildfire as our community has been, and will continue to be, surrounded by it. The work was created over the 2 day residency. Go to portfolio Playing with Fire for details. Click here for a short video on that project.
2019 Tony Onley Artist in Residence program in Wells, BC. The mentorship program with artists Diana Thorneycroft and Peter von Tiesenhausen helped to fuel a project that had been percolating since 2012/13 – referencing my experience with pancreatic cancer. The performance helped me to realize what the piece was about: it takes a community. Click here for a short video documenting that performance.
