speech bubble: where do ideas really come from?

This performance piece and site specific installation begs that question as the stage set for The Nuffield Theatre’s production ‘Speeches that Changed the World’ which was performed ‘in the round’ in the City Council Chambers of Southampton, England. 

The installation had 2 aspects – a performance in the entrance of the Council Chambers and a static installation in the Chamber. The performance consisted of: a young girl dropping the feather of an idea – it slides across the tongue of fabric and floats to the ground floor where a boy gathers it into a glass container where other feathers of an idea are incubating their individual thoughts into a collective idea – perhaps of action. The installation inside the Council Chambers: similar story except the larger feathers do not actually land on the ground as the ideas are released as the performers present and their ideas remain in suspension …
